Turkey:
Turkey is the successar state to the Ottoman Empire a major historical power which lasted for more than six centuries on three continents, controlling most of Southeastern Europe the Middle East and North Africa. As a result of its location astride Europe and Asia, Turkey has come to acquire increasing strategic significance. Turks are the largest ethnic group with minorities of Kurds. Islam is the predominant religion, and the official language is the Turkish language.
The capital city of Turkey is Ankara. The territory of Turkey is subdivided into 81 provinces for administrative purposes. The provinces are organized into 7 regions for census purposes; however, they do not represent an administrative structure. Each province is divided into districts, for a total of 923 districts.
Due to Turkey's geographical conditions, one can not speak about a general overall climate. In Istanbul and around the sea of Marmara the climate is moderate (winter 4 deg.C and summer 27 deg.C); in winter the temperature can drop below zero. In Western Anatolia there is a mild Mediterranean climate with average temperatures of 9 deg.C in winter and 29 deg.C in summer. On the southern coast of Anatolia the same climate can be found.
The climate of the Anatolian Plateau is a steppe climate (there is a great temperature difference between day and night). Rainfall is low and there is more snow. The average temperature is 23 deg.C in summer and -2 deg.C in winter. The climate in the Black Sea area is wet, warm and humid (summer 23 deg.C, winter 7 deg.C). In Eastern Anatolia and South-Eastern Anatolia there is a long hard winter, where year after year snow lies on the ground from November until the end of April (the average temperature in winter is -13 deg.C and in summer 17 deg.C).

Turkish Cuisine:
Turkish cuisine is largely the heritage of Ottoman cuisine, which can be described as a fusion and refinement of Central Asia,Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisines.Turkish cuisine has in turn influenced those and other neighbouring cuisines, including that of western European.
The Ottomans fused various culinary traditions of their realm with influences from Middle Eastern cuisine, along with traditional Turkic elements from Central Asia (such as yogurt), creating a vast array of technical specialities- many with strong regional associations.Taken as a whole,Turkish cuisine is not homogeneous. Aside from common Turkish specialities that can be found throughout the country there are also many region-specific specialities. The black Sea region's cuisine (northern Turkey) is based on corn and anchovies. The southeast—Urfa,Gaziantep and Adana—is famous for its kebabs-mezes and dough-based desserts such as baklava, kadayif and künefe..Especially in the western parts of Turkey, where olive trees are grown abundantly, olive oil is the major type of oil used for cooking. The cuisines of the Aegaean,Marmara and Mediterranean regions display basic characteristics of Mediterranean cuisine as they are rich in vegetables, herbs, and fish. Central Anatolia is famous for its pasta specialties, such as keskek, manti and gözleme.
A typical Turkish breakfast consists of cheese (beyaz peynir, kasar etc.), butter, olives, eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, reçel (jam/marmalade; a preserve of whole fruits) and honey usually consumed on top of kaymak..Sucuk.(spicy Turkish sausage)pastirma, simit,börek, pogaça and even soups can be taken as a morning meal in Turkey. A common Turkish speciality for breakfast is called menemen which is prepared with roasted tomatoes, peppers, olive oil and eggs. Invariably, black tea is served at breakfast. Coffee has affected Turkish culture so much that the Turkish word for breakfast, "kahvalti" literally means "before coffee" (kahve 'coffee' alti 'before' or 'under').
Although fast food is gaining popularity and many major foreign fast food chains have opened all over Turkey, Turkish people still rely primarily on the rich and extensive dishes of the Turkish cuisine. In addition, some traditional Turkish foods, especially köfte,döner,börek and gözleme are often served as fast food in Turkey. Eating out has always been common in large commercial cities.Esnaf lokantasi (meaning restaurants for shopkeepers and tradesmen) are widespread, serving traditional Turkish home cooking at affordable prices.
